Through meta-analysis and literature review, we will examine the advantages, challenges, and potential of VR education from multiple perspectives. This a systematic review and meta-analysis is in accordance with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses; see Checklist 1) statement and AMSTAR (Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews) guidelines, and it was conducted following the guidelines of the Cochrane Handbook [11].

The study was approved by the regional ethical review board (approval numbers 2016/135‐31, 2016/526‐32, and 2017/45‐32). The study was registered in Clinical Trials.gov (NCT03022812, initial release 12/20/2016) and the study protocol was published prior to data collection [19]. The original written and informed consent allowed for this secondary analysis without requiring additional consent, and no new data were collected for this study.

The trial was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, and approved by the Ethics Committee of the Regional Ethical Review Board, Stockholm, Sweden (2018/652-31; 2018/1094‐32; 2018/2393‐32; 2020‐00591; 2020‐07005; and 2022-02557-02). It was also registered at Clinical Trials.gov (NCT03784612). All study participants received oral and written information about the study before giving their written consent before the study started.
