Exploring the Impact of In Basket Metrics on the Adoption of a New Electronic Health Record System Among Specialists in a Tertiary Hospital in Alberta: Descriptive Study

Exploring the Impact of In Basket Metrics on the Adoption of a New Electronic Health Record System Among Specialists in a Tertiary Hospital in Alberta: Descriptive Study

In a primary care setting, a health care provider may receive anywhere from a few to several dozen In Basket messages per day [28]. In specialized settings, such as a hospital or specialized clinic, the volume of In Basket messages can be higher, especially for providers who are involved in complex cases or have a larger patient population [29,30]. Specialists may receive additional types of web-based messages, such as interdepartmental consult requests or referrals from primary care providers.

Patient Portal Implementation and Uptake: Qualitative Comparative Case Study

Patient Portal Implementation and Uptake: Qualitative Comparative Case Study

A comparison of cases provided an opportunity to learn more about factors that played a role in the uptake during a real-time patient portal implementation from the standpoint of study participants rather than from existing frameworks. Alberta, Canada, has a publicly funded and managed health care system based on the principles of universal access to medically necessary services. AHS [18] is the largest provider of health care services in Alberta, delivering care to more than 4 million people.

Effects of a Web-Based Patient Portal on Patient Satisfaction and Missed Appointment Rates: Survey Study

Effects of a Web-Based Patient Portal on Patient Satisfaction and Missed Appointment Rates: Survey Study

A number of provinces provide standalone portals that aggregate laboratory and diagnostic imaging results, but few employ patient portals that allow self-scheduling or health management across a large population. Alberta Health Services (AHS) had a limited production rollout of a patient portal tethered to an EMR in the Edmonton zone from 2016-2019. The objectives of our study were to examine the effects of this tethered patient portal on patient satisfaction and health system usage.

Emergency Physician Use of the Alberta Netcare Portal, a Province-Wide Interoperable Electronic Health Record: Multi-Method Observational Study

Emergency Physician Use of the Alberta Netcare Portal, a Province-Wide Interoperable Electronic Health Record: Multi-Method Observational Study

The ANP’s evolution from a regional to a province-wide system and the usage patterns and contrasting information systems between zones in AHS presented a natural experiment and an excellent opportunity to study the ANP’s utility and usage in 4 busy urban emergency departments.
