| *** JMIR is now officially the leading, most influential, #1 ranked health informatics journal - Impact Factor (2008) is now 3.6 - JMIR now also ranked #2 in the Health Care Sciences & Services Category *** On June 19th, 2009, Thomson Reuters ISI/SCI released their 2008 Journal Impact Factors. With an excellent impact factor of 3.6 (up from last years 3.0) JMIR is now officially the leading, #1 ranked publication (out of 20 journals) in the medical informatics category, after missing the leading spot last year narrowly. The Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association JAMIA has - for the first time in many years - been pushed to the runner-up position. JMIR also moves up to the #2 spot in the health care sciences and health services research category (out of 62 leading journals), beating such reputable journals such as Health Affairs or Milbank Q. |

JMIR is proud to announce that it has received a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) under their Aid to Open Access Journals grants program. JMIR is one of 11 journals supported under this new program. The adjudication committee consisting of scholars with expertise in open access publishing acknowledged the outstanding quality of JMIR: "The committee considered the journal to be of very high quality. It found the editorial board excellent and the peer review process sound. For the first time, the J Med Internet Res (JMIR) was "officially" included - and ended up with a considerable impact factor of 2.9, placing the journal on #2 in the medical informatics category (out of 20 medical informatics journals), and #6 in the very broad "Health Care Sciences & Services" journal category, which includes 56 other leading journals !
