The Effect of Shame on Patients With Social Anxiety Disorder in Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Randomized Controlled Trial

The Effect of Shame on Patients With Social Anxiety Disorder in Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Randomized Controlled Trial

Empirical and meta-analytic studies suggest that shame plays an important role in the development and maintenance of social anxiety [13,14]. Helsel’s [15] study of children’s SAD and shame experiences showed that certain degrees of shame experience could cause social anxiety. Some studies also showed significant correlations between shame proneness, SAD, social avoidance, and distress [16-18].

Rapid Design and Delivery of an Experience-Based Co-designed Mobile App to Support the Mental Health Needs of Health Care Workers Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic: Impact Evaluation Protocol

Rapid Design and Delivery of an Experience-Based Co-designed Mobile App to Support the Mental Health Needs of Health Care Workers Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic: Impact Evaluation Protocol

Health care workers are often reluctant to seek appropriate and timely mental health support [4]. Perceived stigma and career impact, time challenges, and a work culture that values stoicism are recognized as contributing barriers to help-seeking [4-6]. Without support, all health care workers are at increased risk of major mental health complications [4,7].

Digital Health Equity and COVID-19: The Innovation Curve Cannot Reinforce the Social Gradient of Health

Digital Health Equity and COVID-19: The Innovation Curve Cannot Reinforce the Social Gradient of Health

Digital health technologies interact with social, cultural, and economic realities and with social determinants of health to indirectly contribute to health equity. Here, we propose the DHEF (Figure 1), which applies many health equity factors outlined by Dover and Belon [7] in 2019, integrated with digital determinants of health and digital health equity.

Experiences, Attitudes, and Needs of Users of a Pregnancy and Parenting App (Baby Buddy) During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Mixed Methods Study

Given the potential mental fragility of respondents caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, a strategy for providing follow-up support was planned, including links to support within the app (eg, the 24/7 Baby Buddy Crisis Messenger clinically supervised text service) and telephone and web-based support from other charitable organizations.

Amputees’ Attitudes Toward Participation in Amputee Support Groups and the Role of Virtual Technology in Supporting Amputees: Survey Study

Amputees’ Attitudes Toward Participation in Amputee Support Groups and the Role of Virtual Technology in Supporting Amputees: Survey Study

These populations may not have the physical or social resources to participate in face-to-face support groups. As a result, virtual health care support groups are a potential alternative. Virtual health care support groups utilize the communication technology of virtual worlds. The growth and positive impact of virtual worlds has created many new possibilities for amputee support groups.

Proof-of-Concept Support for the Development and Implementation of a Digital Assessment for Perinatal Mental Health: Mixed Methods Study

Proof-of-Concept Support for the Development and Implementation of a Digital Assessment for Perinatal Mental Health: Mixed Methods Study

In light of the recently published recommendations by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists [13] on the use of remote means to provide support to women throughout the perinatal period, digital technologies may offer an innovative way to support the mental health needs of women and their families throughout and beyond these trying times. Notably, digital technologies have the potential to support midwives in the recognition of perinatal mental health concerns and patients’ treatment needs.

Physical Activity, Mental Health, and Technology Preferences to Support Cancer Survivors During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-sectional Study

Physical Activity, Mental Health, and Technology Preferences to Support Cancer Survivors During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-sectional Study

Participants ranked the importance of social support in a physical activity program (scale 0-100). They reported their most preferred means of receiving social support from among the following: (1) in person, (2) video calls, (3) social media, and (4) texting. They then responded to open-ended questions regarding their preferred means of receiving social support. We analyzed descriptive statistics for quantitative variables, using STATA (version 15, Stata Corp).

Development of a Web-Based Resource for Parents of Young Children Newly Diagnosed With Autism: Participatory Research Design

Development of a Web-Based Resource for Parents of Young Children Newly Diagnosed With Autism: Participatory Research Design

Finding support was centered on parental self-care, adjustment to diagnosis, access to support groups, where to get help, and how a parent can help their child in their everyday interactions. Initially, the section on finding support focused heavily on parent support and self-care. However, parents expressed that although it was important to include information about parental self-care, following a diagnosis, a parent’s first focus is “What will help my child? How can I find support for them?”

Evaluation of a Diabetes Remote Monitoring Program Facilitated by Connected Glucose Meters for Patients With Poorly Controlled Type 2 Diabetes: Randomized Crossover Trial

Evaluation of a Diabetes Remote Monitoring Program Facilitated by Connected Glucose Meters for Patients With Poorly Controlled Type 2 Diabetes: Randomized Crossover Trial

To improve Hb A1c, diabetes self-management support needs to be accessible, responsive to varying patient health status, and effective in improving self-management skills, knowledge, and engagement. This is especially important for patients who struggle with self-management or face barriers to accessing traditional in-person services due to social determinants of health [4].

Effectiveness of the Family Portal Function on the Lilly Connected Care Program (LCCP) for Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: Retrospective Cohort Study With Propensity Score Matching

Effectiveness of the Family Portal Function on the Lilly Connected Care Program (LCCP) for Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: Retrospective Cohort Study With Propensity Score Matching

Another possible reason for poor self-management behaviors is the lack of diabetes-specific support from social networks, especially family members [11]. Family members can provide patients with financial support, emotional support, supervision and reminders of self-management behaviors, and instrumental support such as administering insulin injections [12,13]. The Chinese culture attaches great importance to the relationship between family members [14].
