The Journal of Medical Internet Research is primarily an electronic journal which publishes articles "continuously," i.e. articles are published online as soon as they are available (peer-reviewed and copyedited). The Journal collates them into archival "issues" (currently 4 issues per year) and "volumes" (one per year).
The journal is entirely free (Open Access), to access and read HTML versions of articles no subscription (or membership) is necessary .
Since November 2004 we offer a membership program where - in addition to the HTML versions - high-quality electronic PDF reprints of single articles and entire issues are made available to "members". Members can download all previous articles and back-issues without any limitations.
Libraries may be particularly interested in the EL ("Bronze") membership (allowing institution wide access to PDF files through IP recognition). For institutions with publishing authors we recommend a "Silver" or "Gold" membership with APF waivers for authors.
Since 2005, we now also offer print subscriptions (included in the Platinum membership).
Distribution on CD-ROM
In conjunction with collaborating organizations or companies we occasionally make available electronic copies of the Journal of Medical Internet Research on CD-ROM, for free distribution to scientists. For example, a full copy of the entire journal was included on a CD-ROM containing lectures of the
Supercourse project, which was distributed to more than 3.000 epidemiologists all over the world. If your organization plans to produce a CD-ROM and if you are interested to include the Journal of Medical Internet Research, please contact the editor. Such CD-ROMs can only be obtained from the collaborating organizations - please do not direct any inquiries to the editorial office if you wish to have JMIR on CD-ROM.
