NIH funded authors: Save time by publishing in JMIR

 
Since April 2008, legislation in the US requires NIH-funded authors to deposit their manuscripts in PubMed Central (PMC), unless they publish in one of the journals which are already depositing published articles in PMC - JMIR is only one of 2 Impact Factor-ranked journals in the health informatics / ehealth field where NIH authors can publish without going through the deposit process. ISI/SCI Impact Factors 2007: JMIR remains on top

 

Open Access Journal Remains on Top of Its Discipline - Second Year in a Row - Impact Factor (3.0) now almost equal with JAMIA (3.1)

On June 20th, 2008, ISI/SCI released their 2007 Journal Impact Factors. With an outstanding impact factor of 3.0 JMIR has again held its position as a close second (out of 20 journals) in the medical informatics category, almost equal with the leading journal in that category, the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association JAMIA (3.1). JMIR also continues to be ranked #6 in the health care sciences & services category (out of 57 leading journals), tied with the reputable journal Health Affairs.

Idea for a CIHR grant proposal: A JMIR theme issue

 
The Canadian Institutes of Health has just announced a new type of grant mechanism called a End of Grant Knowledge Translation Supplement, worth up to CDN $25,000 per grant. Among the dissemination activities eligible for funding under this program is "Dissemination of research results through specialized publications", which includes for example a JMIR article, a series of JMIR articles, or even a JMIR theme issue. Call for Papers: Medicine 2.0 - How social networking and Web 2.0 technologies revolutionize health care, wellness, clinical medicine and biomedical research
In the past few years we have seen the rapid evolution of new tools and programming techniques collectively called “Web 2.0 tools”, which facilitate the development of collaborative and user-friendly Web applications.
To celebrate the first international "Medicine 2.0" conference on Sept 4./5th 2008 in Toronto, JMIR will publish a “Medicine 2.0” Theme Issue focusing on Web 2.0 Applications for Health. We will publish peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, and opinion articles (new submission deadline for full articles: March 3rd, 2008).
JMIR is specifically seeking contributions, including original papers, editorials, viewpoint articles, case studies, and review articles, on topics related to Web 2.0 as it intersects with health and health care.

Cancer survivor makes donation to JMIR

 
(Toronto, 7 Nov 2007) We were recently touched by a donation to JMIR made by a patient with CLL. The donor (who prefers to remain anonymous) values the information we publish, particularly cancer related research. JMIR receives funding from Research Council

 
(Toronto, 7. Nov 2007). JMIR is proud to announce that it has received a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) under their Aid to Open Access Journals grants program. JMIR is one of 11 journals supported under this new program. The adjudication committee consisting of scholars with expertise in open access publishing acknowledged the outstanding quality of JMIR: "The committee considered the journal to be of very high quality. It found the editorial board excellent and the peer review process sound. The committee commends the journal for becoming actively involved in the development and/or customization of open access tools." More...
 

2006 ISI/SCI Impact Factors confirm JMIR as a top health informatics & health sciences research journal

We are happy and proud to report that on June 20th, 2007, ISI/SCI released their 2006 Journal Citation Reports, reporting journal impact factors for the worlds' most important scholarly journals. For the first time, the J Med Internet Res (JMIR) was "officially" included - and ended up with a considerable impact factor of 2.9, placing the journal on #2 in the medical informatics category (out of 20 medical informatics journals), and #6 in the very broad "Health Care Sciences & Services" journal category, which includes 56 other leading journals !
